The memory of my uncle being killed in the most inhumane manner during the Karabakh war of the 1990s makes me committed to supporting self-determination for the people of Artsakh. It is stories like those of my family that are evidence we are facing a genocidal threat when under Azerbaijan. My hope is to bring us together for the people of Artsakh in their just fight for freedom! Our goal is to bring a healthy smile for all Artsakh.
The registered Dental Hygienist Maria Avakyan-Antonarakis, during a recent 4-week volunteer mission to Armenia, launched “Dental Care 4 Artsakh Project.” Ms. Avakyan-Antonarakis provided dental hygiene procedures and sponsored urgent dental treatments to children, soldiers, and refugee families from Artsakh following the 2020 war.
Ms. Avakyan-Antonarakis family’s tragedy turned them into refugees and explains their life commitment to support the people of Artsakh. Maria tells her family story:
My cousin Gayané Chadian who currently lives in France, created Artsakh Association in 2006 with her father Hamlet Chadian, who is from the Karabakh town of Hadrout. His brother Sasha Chadian, who is our uncle, was brutally killed in 1991 during the first Artsakh war at the age of 21. Trauma from this inhumane killing is still so sore for my uncle Hamlet, that he cannot speak about the brutal details. Hamlet Chadian was a feedayi and fought for his homeland from 1988 until 1994 when our family and friends were forced to leave Artsakh. As our family has been very affected by this tragedy, my cousin and I created the Red Roses Operation to help Armenian families affected by war.
We went to Armenia in December 2020 to start our mission visiting families in different villages of various regions, bringing them financial support. We also had the opportunity to provide free dental care to children, refugees, and soldiers. We plan to expand our project by sponsoring children for educational, cultural, and sport projects as well as continuing free dental care for children. Together we are going to build a strong future for the Armenian people of Artsakh and bring smiles to the children of Artsakh.
